November 21, 2026: I’ll be on a panel at the Lindgren Craft Brewery in Duncannon, PA with several other AT hikers to discuss the history of the trail, what it’s like to hike it, and to drink a beer or two.
October 10, 2026: I’ll be speaking about Eiler Larsen, the first man to hike the entire Appalachian Trail (as a section hiker from 1930-1936) at the Appalachian Long Distance Hiker’s Association’s annual Gathering at Gettysburg College. My talk is from 10:30-12:00.
October 6, 2026: I will be giving a talk about a photographic journey to the Southern Ocean (South Georgia, Antarctica) at the Rust Library in Leesburg, VA at 7:00.
October 5, 2026: I’ll be speaking as part of George Mason University’s annual Fall For the Book festival. My talk will be at the Richard Byrd Library in Springfield, VA at 7:00.
October 2-4, 2026: I’ll be speaking at the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club’s Centennial Fest at Caroline Furnace in the George Washington National Forest.
June 6, 2026: Loudoun (Hillsboro, Virginia) AT Festival. I’ll be speaking about new research on the first person to hike from Katahdin to Mt. Oglethorpe in Georgia between 1930-1936. I’ll be around all weekend at the table for the AT Museum.

Trail Days: I’m giving two talks at Trail Days in Damascus, VA, both in the ATC Trail Center: “Virginia’s Lost Appalachian Trail” at 4:00 on Friday, May 16 and a talk on my forthcoming book, “A Hiker’s History of the Appalachian Trail” on Saturday the 17th at 10:00.
